How it Works
How Kabbalistic Amulets Work
The Creator of our world moulded the whole Universe using 22 letters and 10 digits or enumerations (Sephirot), the addition of which yields the number 32. Accordingly, in Sefer Yetzirah (Book of Formation), these 32 are called the 32 paths of wisdom, and they are the primary, fundamental matrix of the world. Thus, our existence represents an endless quantity of combinations of the aforementioned paths or, in other words, an endless number of Holy Names. Each one of these Names is an attribute of a certain type of G-d’s influence on the Universe. Hence, any phenomenon, any essence, any action is a divine manifestation of forces based on this matrix. Thus, the involvement of a corresponding combination may lead to the correction of reality.
The sacred symbols and the Holy Names that are combined in a special way and applied onto a piece of correctly prepared parchment, in a specific order and under the appropriate conditions, allow obtaining and refocusing the spiritual energy of the Universe in the achievement of the desired results.
It is very important to understand that all this works only if permission has been granted by the King of the World. We have the right to ask for Heavenly help; it is only His decision whether to satisfy our request or not. So, it is not magic, and it is not sorcery or spells. The amulet represents a constantly repeating request (a prayer) that is intended directly for the Creator, the Lord and Master of the Universe.
The amulet must be designed according to the nature of the request, and it must be directed toward the corresponding divine and/or angelic names, on the strength (or to the credit) of whom the given request can be satisfied. “…and I shall deliver him, I shall strengthen him, for he knew My Name. When he calls to me, I will answer him…” (Psalms 91:14–15); that is, it is necessary to apply to that Name, on whom depends what we are asking.” (Rabbi Yosef Gikatilla, Shaarei Orah). Each amulet is unique and can be used only by the one for whom it is written.
The Underlying Structure of Kabbalistic Work
Kabbalistic amulets are not symbolic objects or representations. They are constructed within a defined system based on language, structure, and correspondence. As described in classical sources, the world itself is understood as being formed through combinations of letters and numerical structures. These combinations are not abstract ideas, but functional elements within a larger framework that governs influence, interaction, and change. Within this system, each configuration represents a specific type of force or expression. The role of the amulet is to engage with that structure in a deliberate and controlled way.
The Role of Sacred Names and Letter Combinations
Central to this work is the use of Divine Names and structured letter sequences. In Kabbalistic tradition, Names are not labels. They are considered expressions of specific attributes or channels of influence. Each Name corresponds to a defined function within the broader system described in foundational texts. The arrangement of these Names is critical. Order, combination, and relationship determine how the request is formed and how it is directed. Because of this, the effectiveness of an amulet is not based on the presence of a Name alone, but on how it is constructed within the full structure.
The Amulet as a Continuous Directed Request
An amulet is not intended to act independently or produce effects on its own. It functions as a structured and ongoing request, aligned toward a specific outcome. This aligns with traditional sources that describe invocation through Names as a form of directed appeal, rather than an act of control. The amulet maintains this request continuously, rather than as a single moment of intention. In this sense, it serves as a sustained point of alignment between the individual and the specific influence being invoked.
Divine Will and Permission
A critical distinction within this work is that it does not operate through force, manipulation, or coercion. As reflected in the tradition itself, any outcome remains subject to Divine will. The amulet does not override this. It is constructed to align a request correctly, not to impose an outcome. This is why permission, appropriateness, and correct formulation are emphasized. The work depends on alignment with an existing structure, rather than attempting to alter it directly.
Why Each Amulet Must Be Individual
Because this system is based on precise correspondence, no two cases are identical. Even when circumstances appear similar, the underlying structure, names, conditions, and required alignment differ. As a result, each amulet must be constructed specifically for the individual it is intended for. This is not a matter of personalization in a general sense, but a requirement of the system itself. Reusing or replicating an existing structure would break that correspondence.
A System Rooted in Ancient Tradition
This work is not based on interpretation alone. It draws from established Kabbalistic sources, including texts such as Sefer Yetzirah and later writings that expand on the use of letter structures, Names, and their relationships. While the application requires experience and judgment, the underlying system is documented and defined within the tradition. The amulet, therefore, is not a modern invention or symbolic practice, but a continuation of a structured method grounded in historical sources.
